A 3% and 5% growth, respectively, in revenue and export value of SMEs in Thailand is expected during 2010. This growth is expected to be driven by the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Free Trade Agreement.
The growth forecast has come from the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), which expects ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) to open up huge growth opportunities for small businesses within the region.
Yuthasak Supasorn, director-general of OSMEP, believes that Thai SMEs can expand their footprint and establish a wider presence in the regions falling under ASEAN. He feels that the export value of small companies in Thailand will increase to Bt1.66 trillion this year from Bt1.59 trillion recorded last year. The growth in export value of Thai SMEs is likely to soar further if they source cheaper raw materials from countries within the ASEAN region.
Mr Supasorn also expects revenue growth of Thai SMEs’ to increase by 3% from Bt6.21 trillion last year to Bt6.41 trillion this year, which is further projected to gain momentum in 2011.
