    Focus on Customers 1st when you Start a Dollar Store

    One of the truly forgotten actions when it comes to achieving dollar discount success is focusing on the customer first and foremost. Many who start a dollar store wrongly assume carrying products at such low prices automatically means shoppers will come back to their store time and again no matter how the customer has been treated. While some shoppers will simply lump you in with all the others who have forgotten how to treat a customer, many others will move on to search for your competitor who treats them as the valuable patron they are. It’s too late to do anything to save the shoppers you have already lost.

    All you can do is take the heroic efforts to try and recapture as many of those lost customers as possible. All the while, you are spending extra money and time in the recapture effort and your dollar store sale levels are declining. There is a better way to manage your dollar store. It is to value your customers and show it by providing outstanding customer service each and every time they enter your store. It is to make customer service the very cornerstone for your business success.



    To many who start a dollar store there just isn’t enough time to get all of the daily tasks associated with owning and operating a dollar store completed. Then the thought of providing a little extra focus on the shoppers who enter their store doesn’t even enter their minds. That is not the way to look at your business. It is the dollar store sales to your customers and the resulting profits that pay the bills. Without your customers your business will soon wilt away to nothing.

    You must approach your customers as the number one priority for your business. At times that will mean a re-layout of the toy aisle might need to wait for another day. It might mean the all the holiday banners that just arrived will not be installed in their appropriate locations today. Yet wisely trading these low-impact actions for the minutes to make your shoppers experience while in your store even more memorable will pay dividends as you see dollar store sale levels slowly climb upward.


    Take the time to greet shoppers as they enter your store. Say ‘hello’ to passing shoppers if you are working on the sale floor. Always ask if there is anything you can do to help shoppers. Inquire if your shoppers were able to locate everything they wanted. Always focus on the shoppers you are helping at the cash register. Thank everyone for coming into your store.
